Square vs Rounded Corners – What's the Difference?
When ordering bedding for your caravan, motorhome or RV, understanding the difference between square and rounded mattress corners is important to ensure the best possible fit.
While some of our bedding designs are made with rounded corners at the foot of the bed as standard, not all caravan and motorhome mattresses have the same shape.
We've put together this simple guide to help you identify which corner style your mattress has.
Square Corners
Square doesn't necessarily mean a perfect 90-degree angle!
Just like the mattress on your bed at home, many caravan and motorhome mattresses have corners that are slightly softened or curved rather than perfectly sharp.
At Drifted Off, we still consider these to be square corners.
If your mattress has a subtle curve at the corners but is otherwise relatively rectangular, it will most likely be classified as square.

Example of a square-corner mattress. Notice that the corners may be slightly softened rather than perfectly sharp.
Rounded Corners
When we refer to rounded corners, we mean significantly rounded corners, not the subtle curves found on a standard household mattress.
These corners have a much more pronounced curve, approximately 20 degrees, and are often found on mattresses designed to fit particular caravan and motorhome layouts.
An easy way to picture it? Think of a bread-and-butter plate!
The curve of a rounded mattress corner is roughly comparable to the curve of a standard bread and butter plate.
If your mattress corners only have a slight curve, similar to the mattress on your bed at home, they're most likely considered square rather than rounded.

Let's Compare!
Sometimes the easiest way to tell the difference is to see the two styles side by side.

The easiest way to remember:
-
Square Corners: Can be 90-degree angle, slightly softened corners, similar to a standard household mattress. They don't need to form a perfect 90-degree angle.
-
Rounded Corners: Significantly curved corners, roughly comparable to the curve of a bread-and-butter plate.
Remember: Just because your mattress corners aren't perfectly square doesn't necessarily mean they're considered rounded!
Not Quite Square or Round? Let's Talk Angled Corners!
Some caravan and motorhome mattresses have angled corners, where the corner is cut diagonally rather than being square or rounded. These are often designed to create extra space around the bed.
There are two common types of angled corners:
Symmetrical Angled Corners
These have a straight, diagonal cut with an equal amount taken off each side, creating a symmetrical 45-degree angle.

Asymmetrical Angled Corners
These also have a straight, diagonal cut, but more is taken off one side than the other, creating a longer, more slanted angle.

Have Angled Corners?
If your mattress has angled corners, please provide a simple labelled sketch showing the measurements of the angled sections when ordering custom bedding.
This helps us ensure your bedding is made to fit your mattress correctly!
Notched Corners
These mattresses feature square or rectangular cut-outs at the corners, creating a stepped shape. They're commonly found in caravans and motorhomes where the mattress needs to fit around cabinetry, bed frames or other fixtures.

What Does This Mean When Ordering?
Some of our caravan and motorhome bedding designs are manufactured with rounded corners at the foot of the bed as standard to suit particular mattress styles.
However, mattress shapes can vary, even between caravans and motorhomes of the same make or model.
If you're ordering through our Custom Bedding range, you can specify whether your mattress has square or rounded corners in the order notes during check out in the "Add Instructions for Seller" section.
This helps us ensure your bedding is made to suit your individual mattress.
