What linen do I need when I am travelling?
When venturing into the great outdoors whether camping in a tent, roof top camper, swag, caravan or motor home it's time to add the finishing touches that will determine your bed's degree of cosy.
Backpacking
Backpackers have generally only had one viable option: sleeping bags. The adventurous souls who love to wander in the back country are forever concerned about the weight and compactness of items when it comes to selecting gear. Backpackers typically select a light-weight mummy style sleeping bag with down or synthetic insulation, filled to differing degrees of loft depending upon the seasonal extremes. Pillows can be made from rolled up clothing, a small travel pillow, or your pack. But if you are hiking in summer and feel a sleeping bag will be too hot, why not consider camping sheets. They are light weight and will keep you cool on those hot nights.
Camping
Tent campers, on the other hand, need not be as concerned as backpackers about the weight and size of gear. You are limited only by the amount of storage space that is in the vehicle taking you to the campsite. However you get to the campground, take advantage of space and pack whatever gear you can that will add comfort and enjoyment to your trip.
With the added space consider taking regular bed items to the campground: sheets, blankets, pillows, comforters, and quilts. If you happen to be camping at the beach where sand eventually finds its way into everything, consider using flannelette sheets rather than cotton. Flannelette sheets are more comfortable because they have a loose weave that often allows sand to pass through.
Up until now for many campers, the standard fare has been a rectangular sleeping bag. Now there is also the option of specialised sheets that fit the different types of sleeping options. Whether you have a swag, camp stretcher or Mat find a sheet that fits for a better night’s sleep.
Caravans and Motor Homes
If you are in a caravan or motor home, then you have the convenience of a real bed, so take advantage of that fact and bring along bedding to make it cosy. With fitted sheets designed for the different shape beds your van will look as stylish and comfortable as your bedroom at home.
